West Roxbury Resident wins Silver at National Theatre on Ice Competition and Qualifies for International Event
There was not a seat to be had as spectators filled the Hoover Arena in Cleveland, Ohio at the National Theatre on Ice Competition held on June 22 and 23. 37 teams consisting of approximately 726 skaters from across the United States took the ice to delight audience members with their performances as well as have a chance at a medal and qualify for selection to the Nations Cup to be held in Logrono, Spain in 2013.
Imagica Theatre on Ice of Boston received a silver medal and a spot for next year’s Nations Cup in the Adult Division after their memorable and challenging short and long programs. A figure skater from West Roxbury, Robin Ostrowski, is a member of Imagica TOI and is thrilled to have contributed to her team’s success this year.
One of four Theatre on Ice Teams from The Skating Club of Boston, Imagica is in its fifteenth year and is coached by Tasney Mazzarino of Salem and Amy Vecchio of Winthrop. The Team is comprised of adult figure skaters ranging in age from 23 to 60 who reside throughout Greater Boston and Southern New Hampshire. More than half of the team learned to skate as adults and possess a wide range of skating abilities.
Imagica’s short program, “The Four Seasons,” depicts how humans deal with nature’s elements throughout the year. The long program, “Shore Leave in Manhattan,” tells the story of three WWII W.A.V.E.S (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) who are on 24-hour shore leave in New York City and their ensuing adventures.
