3 Not So Cheap Dates to Go On in West Roxbury
How about some prime rib at the Sofia Italian Steakhouse - or get a pedicure?!
This is part two of a two-part series about cheap dates, and not so cheap dates, that you could go on in West Roxbury. Part I was yesterday.
Is your anniversary coming up and you're short on ideas of what to do? Patch has got some not-so-cheap suggestions for dates in West Roxbury.
Now we're not saying these three options are expensive, they're just more expensive than say splitting a banana split or taking a romantic walk.
The first date option is heading to one of the classiest places in West Roxbury - the Sofia Italian Steakhouse. This is fine dining with a great atmosphere that allows for a wonderful date night.
While you wait you could sit at the bar and order a cocktail or a glass of wine (of which there are many options). There's also a fireplace in the waiting area, as there is also one in the private dining room.
One recent night Joe McNeil and Michelle Griffiths worked on some drinks at the bar before heading to their seats for dinner.
"We come here every six weeks or every mont," said Griffiths. "It's close by and the food is nice. The seafood pasta is very good. The osso bucco is very good, too."
The veal osso bucco is "slow cooked fork tender veal shank served with baked potato and seasonal vegetable" according to Sofia's web site, and costs $28.
Overall, the steakhouse is not expensive compared to other steakhouses. The highest priced items on the menu is $34 (a 14-ounce prime New York sirloin, or the grilled 24-ounce Porterhouse steak).
"The prime rib is really good," added McNeil, of the 22-ounce entree that comes in at $25.
If you're looking for a more unique dating experience, how about taking your date to a salon? Seriously. A lot of men (maybe not in West Roxbury) get pedicures, so why not go together? And we all know that salons are not cheap.
Prices vary depending on what you get at each place, but possibly the most noted salon is Lord's & Lady's Hair Salon. It's three floors of pampering for any man or woman. And think about what kind of reaction you'll get from your date when you suggest you head out for pedicures or a facial! You certainly will have plenty to talk about.
Lord's & Lady's offers spa treatments, tanning, facials, waxing (this might not be a date activity), and more.
The last option isn't pricey compared to other prix fixe options, but it'll be worth every penny if you attend one of Masona Grill's delicious dinners. On Oct. 19, the tucked away restaurant on Corey Street, will be serving a five-course, Spanish four-wine dinner for $49 per person (not including tax and tip).
Owner and executive chef Manual Sifnugel will be cooking up some mouth-watering food including, chorizo crusted hake with saffron fennel broth, and a main entree of braised pork loin with potatoes, apples, apricots and cider reduction.
Reservations are required so call Masona Grill at 617-323-3331. For more information on the meal, check out the restaurant's web site.
And remember to enjoy your dates no matter what the cost.
