5 Things You Need to Know Today: October 10

The External Advisory Committee on School Choice will hear proposals from the community, including one created by City Councilors John Connolly and Matt O'Malley, and state Rep. Ed Coppinger.

  1. Tonight the External Advisory Committee on School Choice will meet meet to review and discuss proposals that have been submitted from the community. Suffolk University, 73 Tremont St., 9th floor.
  2. City Councilor At-Large John Connolly will be presenting the Quality School Choice Plan also supported by West Roxbury's District Councilor Matt O'Malley, state Rep. Ed Coppinger, D-West Roxbury, and state Reps. Linda Dorcena Forry, Nick Collins and Russell Holmes, at the external advisory meeting.
  3. Due to the Columbus Day holiday recycling/trash collection is delayed one day.
  4. On Thursday is October's Highland Hash Fun Run with LeanWorks and High & Mighty Beer at Blanchard's Tasting Room. Fun Run participants meet at the host venue (Blanchard's) where they can choose from a 2.5-mile or 5-mile route based on their skill level. Each route ends back at the venue, with light appetizers and locally brewed craft beer. 6 p.m. at Blanchard's for fun, and then 7-8:30 p.m. with food and beer.
  5. Enjoy a free movie tonight - "Tiger and the Snow" - or "La Tigre e la neve" is from 2005. Italian actor-director Roberto Benigni stars as a romantic poet who vows to follow his love (Benigni's real-life wife, Nicoletta Braschi) to the ends of the earth -- even if that means going to Iraq at the dawn of the American invasion. West End Museum. 150 Staniford St., Boston. 6:30-830 p.m.
