BLS Soccer Defeats Catholic Memorial in Season Opener

BLS' Wolfpack won, 2-0, with two teams packed with Parkway players.

The Boston Latin School defeated Catholic Memorial on Thursday, 2-0, in the season opener for both teams. BLS dominated most of the play as central players Jordan Freundlich, Owen Ward, Cillian Clinton and Alex Cassesso bossed the match. Winger David Gonzalez blasted the Wolfpack into the lead in the 40th minute after a pass from freshman Ulises Alvarez.

CM pushed back in the second half, but fullback Nuri Al-Hakim dashed forward and finished from Cassesso in the 62nd minute. Freundlich, a senior captain, was man of the match for his effort, quality and leadership for all 80 minutes. Sophomore Pearse Martin earned the clean sheet for Latin, which hosts Westford on Tuesday.
