Boston City Councilors Murphy and Arroyo Endorse Jim Hennigan for West Roxbury District Council Race
Hennigan's small business ownership cited as one reason by sitting councilors.
Citing Jim Hennigan's business acumen and ability to hit the ground running, current Boston City Councilors Stephen Murphy and Felix Arroyo, endorsed the West Roxbury resident for the open District 6 seat.
"Jim Hennigan is a husband, father, homeowner, business man - and he understands finances and the pressures of the current economy on a family," said Murphy in an emailed statement. "I have no doubt that when he is elected he will be able to get up and running and be an effective city councilor almost from day one."
Hennigan owns James Hennigan Insurance in West Roxbury.
Hennigan is one of five candidates running for the Boston City Council seat that represents West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, and parts of Mission Hill and Roslindale. The Oct. 19 preliminary election will get it down to two candidates for the Nov. 16 final election.
Said Arroyo, "I live in the district and like all the other votes in District 6, I had to make my own personal decision of who I would vote for. Jim Hennigan was raised in Jamaica Plain, has lived in West Roxbury for 20 years, and I believe he has a good understanding of both neighborhoods - and a district that has two different neighborhoods in one district. He'll be coming in to fill a term and I believe he can walk into the council and start from day one."
Personally Arroyo has been touring Main Street districts around the city to try to help small business owners and he feels that as a small business owner, Hennigan will be able to help with that mission.
Both Murphy and Arroyo are at-large councilors. Murphy lives in Hyde Park and Arroyo lives in Jamaica Plain. Fellow At-Large City Councilor John Connolly, as well as Tobin, previously endorsed O'Malley.
