Busted Knuckle Bicycle Shop is Open for Business

New and used bikes for sale, as well as bike repairs and equipment, are staples of the new business.

The story of how Jay Devitt came up with name for the newly-opened Busted Knuckle Bicycle Shop.

"It came about last year. I was selling a lot of used bikes from Ferris Wheels (in Jamaica Plain).. and my knuckles were always busted," said Devitt, from the shop at 2066 Centre St., then opened in late April.

Devitt has been a lifelong bicycle enthusiast and has "nearly twenty years experience working independently and in shops such as Carr's, Frank's Spoke n Wheel, Back Bay Bikes, Wheels of Justice (Oakland, CA) and Ferris Wheels," according to the shop's Facebook page

He also received his BFA in small metals from Mass Art in 2004.

With his shop dog, Rocko, by his feet, Devitt is very congenial, and is obviously excited about his new business venture. So far he said he's had about a repair a day, and has been selling some supplies like bike tubes.

The store sells new and used bicycles, as well as bicycle accoutrements like helmets, locks, spokes and more - and don't worry there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers, according to Devitt.

So head into the shop with your bicycle that needs a tune-up, a new tire or any other bicycle necessity - Devitt will be able to help you, and hopefully his knuckles won't have to get busted from it.
