Catholic Memorial Speech Places 5th at Natick Tourney
Overall, the Catholic Memorial team finished in 5th place at Natick, of the 37 teams competing.
Catholic Memorial School’s speech and debate team traveled to Natick on December 15 to compete in the annual Holly Fest Speech and Debate Tournament.
At that tournament, 18 students made it to the stage that day to earn acclaim, including captain Chris Traynor (3rd, dramatic audition), John Dion (3rd, children's literature and 4th, original oratory), Matt Friosi (5th, dramatic interpretation), Antoine Kandalaft (5th, declamation), Bradley Rowan (5th, prose), Traynor and Friosi (5th, duo), Matt Wolfe (6th, prose), Dan Shulman (7th, programmed poetry) and Cole Cecchetto (hon. mention, group).
Additionally, the multiple team of Traynor, Friosi, co-captain Matt McCarthy, Brendan Fitzpatrick and Paul Sinno came in 2nd place for their performance of "I don't want to talk about it" by Bradley Hayward. Lastly, John Treon earned the "top novice" award for his performance in extemporaneous speaking.
Speech coach Rob Croteau, in his fourteenth year of coaching, says he is as confident as ever that the CM team will get there by the state and national tournaments this spring. "You're going to see CM performing well into the spring in the categories where we always do best: dramatic performance, declamation and duo," he said.
