A West Roxbury Educational Complex employee discovered a dead dog with an apparent gunshot wound to the head when he came to work on Aug. 23.

Police found the dog lying on a grassy area right of the school's driveway around 10:30 a.m. Official said the brown dog was bloated and had a large wound on its right side. The breed of the dog was undeterminable. 

About 25 feet away from the dog a brown blanket was found near the edge of the woods.

The custodial staff was at the school the day before until about 3 p.m. and did not see the dog or the blanket at that time.

Detectives responded to the scene and took photos, and Animal Control removed the animal.
