Fundraiser for Parkway Cop's Family in Need Tonight
The McCarthy family is enduring hard times due to 6-year-old Gavin's chemotherapy, and Gavin's mother's diagnosis with ovarian cancer.
There will be a fundraiser tonight for the McCarthy family, which is badly in need of help.
Karyn McCarthy is a 17-year-veteran police officer, with 15 years protecting and serving the residents of West Roxbury and Roslindale. Currently, she is assigned to the Boston Police Department's Fugitive Section.
Funds raised will help defray the McCarthy's family expenses.
Karyn's 6-year-old son, Gavin, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma (tumors on his brain) at age 3, and he has been receiving chemotherapy since that age. About six weeks ago Karyn, Gavin's mother, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She is in the midst of her battle and is attending daily chemotherapy sessions, and her diagnosis is uncertain.
Karyn and her husband have three young boys, ages 6-, 8- and 10-years-old. She and her family used to reside in Roslindale and currently live in Walpole.
The fundraiser is tonight at the West Roxbury Elks Lodge starting at 7 p.m.
Admission tickets for $20. There will be a raffle at the event.
