Item Taken From Joyce Kilmer Road Basement Could Be Human Skull

Resident called Boston Police to report what he believed to be a human skull while redoing his basement. Laboratory results will determine whether it's a human skull or not.

detectives quickly rushed to their vehicles after removing an item in a brown paper bag that may be a human skull from a Joyce Kilmer Road basement on Sunday afternoon.

A resident of 71 Joyce Kilmer Road, West Roxbury, , or part of a human skull, in his basement on Sunday.

As news media trucks gathered on the suburban road, a few neighbors gathered next door to 71.

Paul Kiritsky, of 83 Joyce Kilmer Road, joked that Jeremy Gavin, a Boston firefighter, the owner of 71, was always a quiet guy and kept to himself. Gavin lives at his home with his wife and child, but were immediately unavailable as they were speaking to BPD officials about what Jeremy found.

Mark Manney, who lives next door to where the item was removed, said the Gavins recently resurfaced their basement and have lived at the location for four or five years.

WCVB-TV videographer Frederick E. Medeiros, said he's been in the news industry for 25 years and he's responded to several reports of a human skull. "Maybe half a dozen (end up being a human skull). Usually a dog finds something in the backyard."

Andy Mihail, a videographer for Fox News, who's been in the news industry for 14 years, said he had heard the previous owner of the home was a widower who lived by herself for 15 years after her husband died. Mihail figured the item in 1 out of 3 cases from these types of incidents ends up being a real human skull. "Someone finds something in the woods..."

The two talked about recent news magnet , and how during the 90s a lot of skulls and bodies turned up believed to be attributed to Bulger.
