Kelleher's Given Violation for Being Closed on Saturday Night
Detectives went to see if Kelleher's was obeying the bar's entertainment license being suspended for 24 hours - and found the business closed.
For being closed on Satuday, Kelleher's Bar & Grille was issued a license premise violation for closing without approval from the Boston Licensing Board.
Boston Police detectives went to the establishment at 1410 Centre St., around 11:05 p.m. to make sure the business did not have any entertainment. Detectives had been informed by the Mayor's Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing that the business' entertainment license was suspended from noon on Saturday, June 30 throught noon on Sunday, July 1.
Instead the detectives found the door closed with a sign reading: "Kelleher's will be closed Sat. June 30th. We will reopen on Sun. July 1st at 12:00 pm. Sorry for the inconvenience."
What do you think of a premise violation being given to business for not getting permission from the licensing board first?

Was the point of this violation that they closed rather than stay open that night without entertainment i.e. kind of trying to flout the suspension maybe?

I am confused.....whay would a business get in trouble for closing. That makes no sense. I could see if they opened after being cited, but closing rather than run the risk of more violations seems like a responsible move.

This is some b-flat B.S. going on. Kelleher's followed the dictate of the citation - no entertainment. There was no entertainment. The fact that there was nothing else is irrelevant. They gave up all the business they could have earned on a hot weekend day/night. That's punishment enough.
This whole thing stinks. Ever go into the bathroom at the Corrib? People smoke in them and everyone (including management) knows. They're also looking pretty young in there some nights....and what about the person who died in front of it? The Corrib gets preferential treatment in this town. Makes you wonder....

In Massachusetts, the law is pretty clear that, “[a] licensee cannot cease operations, sit silent and avoid contact with the local board without facing the cancellation of its license. You have to seek permission to be closed. But putting that aside, this used to be a really respectable bar when J. Kelleher ran it. The current owners are a joke, have no idea what good customer service is and are experts on taking shortcuts. The staff are rude and what I find funny is how the female bartender, in particular, only waits on her friends - often not charging them, while the rest of us get ignored and drink orders go unacknowledged. The food actually used to be decent, but that turned horrible too. The whole place has gone downhill and maybe what the owners need to learn is there are better places for us to spend our money these days. LOVE the new Napper Tandy's!
Oh and Mumbles? You might want to get your facts straight. Violations are public record and one can see the numerous times the Corrib has been sighted. It certainly does not appear to get preferential treatment. And those young people seen on some nights in the Corrib, are often seen at Kelleher’s these days too. But then, you are probably the little, whiny owner, hiding behind a fake account and as we have learned from you...we don’t really care what you think!
