Menino Attending Shamrock Shootout in West Roxbury Today
The 6th annual St. Patrick's Day weekend street hockey event is taking place today in the Temple Street neighborhood.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is scheduled to attend today's 6th annual Shamrock Shootout in West Roxbury.
While Boston Mayor Thomas Menino hasn't declared whether he'll be seeking re-election - the Temple Street area, where the shootout takes place - is a big John Connolly neighborhood. Connolly, an at-large city councilor, announced his mayoral candidacy earlier this month, lives in West Roxbury.
Connolly has hammered the Menino administration on the recent student assignment plan, calling it "a lost opportunity for our children".
And the Shamrock Shootout will be packed with families with elementary-aged children.
The Shamrock Shootout begins at 10:30 a.m. at Temple and Sherbrook streets in West Roxbury.
So is this a campaign move for Menino gearing up for a mayoral election? Let us know in the comments section.

This event is about and for the kids, and while it is expected that politicians and community leaders are expected attend, I would hope it would be in a show of support for the kids. Don't politicize the fun too much, just let the kids have old time fun for one day without distractions of adult business. It is street hockey, not a political sparring match.

Saw Tito Jackson at the event trying to lace up a pair of ice skates. Awkward.
