Menino endorses all four at-large incumbents. All candidates were invited to speak at the Hastings Street municipal lot to give their last pitches before Election Day.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino made a surprise last minute appearance and endorsements of the four sitting at-large City Council candidates during a Harry Truman Election Eve Rally in West Roxbury.
Held on Monday night at the Hastings Street municipal lot, Menino said "...the four at-large councilors. They've done the job for you. Let's bring them back."
That was after At-Large Boston City Councilor John Connolly spoke and stumped for neighborhood schools, which Menino doesn't support.
The night was a throwback to the 1980s when there were Harry Truman Society Election Eve Rallies every year, a tradition that West Roxbury District Councilor Matt O'Malley and state Rep. Ed Coppinger, D-West Roxbury, have promised to start up again.
After Steve Slyne, one of the creators of the original Truman rallies, spoke to the crowd, Boston City Council candidates had one last chance to let West Roxbury residents know why they should vote for them.
District 5 Councilor Rob Consalvo reminded the crowd that his district has five precincts in ward 20. Consalvo is unopposed and said that as long as he or his mother go out and vote, he'll get elected.
Most of the crowd consisted of John Connolly and Stephen Murphy supporters evidenced by most people holding signs.
