ReadBoston Storymobile Starts This Week - Free Book For Every Child Every Time

The Storymobile is rolling through four West Roxbury locations starting July 11 until August 17, providing 24 opportunities for children 2 to 8 to enjoy interactive storytelling events for free.

The ReadBoston Storymobile will be stopping in West Roxbury quite a bit starting on Wednesday. The Storymobile provides children 2- to 8-yeas-old with free interactive storytelling events - and free, new books to take home!

There were will be 24 different Storymobile opportunties at four different West Roxbury locations this summer. (Please see chart below for locations, dates and times.)

ReadBoston is a nonprofit organization created by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, "to promote regular reading and to build literacy skills outside of the classroom." Without even knowing it, children often experience "Summer Slide" that puts many students 3 or 4 months behind when school starts up again in September. ReadBoston providing access to as few as six books to read and re-read during the summer months will stop the slide.

The Storymobile program runs weekdays from July 9 to Aug. 17. In total, the program will be at 80 locations throughout Boston. For the full schedule around Boston, click here.

“There are no vacations from reading in the summer,” says Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. “It is so important that our young people have the opportunity to hear stories, to take books home and to read them with their parents. ReadBoston’s Storymobile program makes that possible.”

ReadBoston’s Storymobile program hires professional local storytellers to entertain and educate Boston’s children ages 2- to 8-years-old during the summer months. Not only does each child enjoy watching a story brought to life each week through tales and song, but they get to choose a book to bring home and keep.
