Red Carpet: Fashion Mob on November 1 in West Roxbury
The Fashion Show is at 6:30 p.m. on November 1 in front of Top It Off, Fabutique, Kalembar Dune and more. Runway models will show off this winter's styles.
While not confirmed with local historians, it is believed that on November 1, West Roxbury’s firstever Fashion Mob will take place - making Spring Street a "pop-up runway."
“Top it Off and Fabutique are putting a fashionable twist on the flash mob concept! We are rolling out the red carpet and shining the spotlight on the latest Fall fashions in women’s clothing and accessories - right out on our sidewalk!” said Ashley Boiardi, retail manager of Top It Off.
Fairview Corner - the stretch of commercial stores from 162 to 170 Spring Street - continues its fashionable upgrade. For the Fashion Mob, models will walk the sidewalk in front of the stores at 6:30 p.m. donning contemporary clothing from Fabutique, paired with fabulously chic accessories from Top It Off.
“We are excited to bring the latest fashion trends to West Roxbury and the surrounding communities. Our customers love having a local destination for their fashion needs that make their wallets feel as good as they do when they strut their new looks," said Marika Gaurenszky, Fabutique's owner. "And we are thrilled to be welcoming our new neighbor BakerBaker. A sweet and savory addition to the fashion and vintage treats you’ll find at Fairview Corner.”
BakerBaker was to be named Just Baked, a freshly made soup, sandwich and dessert shop; but the name Just Baked is owned by another business. The owner of Spring Street Cafe owns BakerBaker.
Kalembar Dune's owner and landlord of the block, Shirley Walsh, has tinkered with tenants through the last couple of years to make Fairview Corner a destination. Said Walsh, “West Roxbury has great places to shop and to eat. We look forward to extending the buzz that exists for West Roxbury’s Restaurant Row, by turning up the spotlight on our 'Boutique Block' at the Fashion Mob."
“We are proud to be part of the vibrancy of Fairview Corner, and thank Main Streets for their support in bringing buzz to West Roxbury’s new shopping destination,” said Elizabeth Hoenscheid, owner of West Roxbury’s own accessory line Top it Off.
Donations of $5 are suggested and will go to the Roslindale Food pantry.
Astra Salon's owner Michael McMurrough, whose shop is on Centre Street, will be doing all the blowouts for the models. Also in the mix will be two local make-up artists, Barbara Campbell of JBCreativehair.weebly.com and Silvia Manning.
The night's festivities get started at 5:30 p.m. and go to 9:30 p.m., during which the stores will be open for shopping. The Fashion Show will begin at 6:30 and should last about a half hour. The shops - Top It Off, Fabutique, BakerBaker and Kalembar Dune - are all offering complimentary drinks, savory and sweet treats from BakerBaker.
