SOUND OFF: President Obama and the Democratic Convention

What did you think of Obama's speech and the convention? Will you vote for him in November?

President Barack Obama capped off the Democratic National Convention with a speech that highlighted his foreign policy wins, health care reform and immigration reform on Thursday.

Over three nights, Democratic leaders took aim at Republican nominee, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and his running mate Congressman Paul Ryan. A number of Massachusetts Democrats spoke at the convention, including Gov. Deval Patrick, Congressional candidate Elizabeth Warren and Senator John Kerry.

We want to hear from you about the Democratic convention. What did you think of the president's speech? How did it compare to Romney's convention speech? Were you swayed in either direction after watching the proceedings from both conventions? Who are you supporting in November?

Let us know in the comment section below.

The DNC was amazing. They made the case for their agenda and destroyed Republican arguments one by one. If people vote this fall, they Democrats will win.

PLEASE NOTE: Scott Brown was the key to Republican Obstruction Strategy to make Obama a one-term President http://ow.ly/dybMq

Sure they did Neil. With numbers like these, Obama is losing most of his target audience. And this comes from CNN...of all places!!

http://money.cnn.com/2012/09/07/news/economy/young-adults-jobs/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

This is what happens when people are handed things their entire lives. Zero work ethic. Instead of pushing forward, even in the toughest of times, they drop out.

The USofA is a business. Whether you like it or not. Time to start treating it like one. Oh wait, that's right. Profits are bad, debt is good. $16trillion in debt with no end in sight? Look at our credit rating. Look at our productivity. All in the can. So let's spend more!! Let China own more of the US!! Shoot...even China is dumping US Debt. We're screwed.

Joseph,

The United States is not a "business". It's a nation of millions of people with millions of walks of life. Yes, we adhere to free enterprise and capitalist ideals. Businesses should be able to turn a profit and people whould be allowed to prosper individually. But please don't say that the United States is just a "business".

To be honest, I'm not sure which direction you're coming from in this issue. Are you behind the working class and all for returning jobs to U.S. shores? Or do you feel that, since the U.S. is a business, they should be allowed to conduct their affairs without being bothered (ex. shipping jobs over seas and hurting the working class)?

The USofA is a business? If it is, I want my money back from oil companies that are subsidized with 6 billion taxpayers dollars - Scott Brown voted for that - I want the tax money I paid because hedge fund managers got a deal deal, 15% on income instead of the same rates everyone else pays.

Truth be told, self government must be fiscally responsible, but that does not mean it exists for the same reason business exists, to make profit.

Businesses are for making profit. And they can choose to do that responsibly or by exploiting the law, loopholes and employees ... or not.

They pay 15% on capital gains as you would pay 15% on capital gains for any investment you might have. They still pay the same income tax as you for regular income.

The DNC promoted a socialist agenda for the non tax paying gimme crowd and the few people that pay taxes are tired of it. The participants really voted against having God and Jerusalem added to the platform but were overridden by the gavel. This action being typical of this dictatorial administration and against this countries Costitution. This type Governing is the problem not the solution..

ConocoPhillips earned $19.8 billion in pretax income in 2010 and it paid $8.3 billion in taxes, leaving $11.4 billion in income. That equals a tax rate of 42 percent. Chevron made $32 billion and then paid $12.9 billion in income taxes, leaving a net income of $19.1 billion, which equals a tax rate of 40 percent.

Its funny how dems won't talk about all the jobs that these oil companies create or t billions in tax revenue generated for the government. Instead, they just use billion dollar profits to incite class warfare while simultaneously accusing republicans of being "extremists".
And when you compare the profits to the large size of these companies, they really aren't that large percentage wise.

What's event more interesting is that many of the major shareholders in these and other demond-heartless scorched earth capitalists are union and public pension plans. ...followed by private pension plans and 401K plans. Most of these hold through investment advisors, custodians or mutual funds. Funny isn't it?

Some other things that are never talked about by those trying to mislead people who have no real concept of how our economy actually works:

1) The # of people employed by small businesses is essentially equivalent to the number of people employed by firms with over 500 employees (usually corporations) http://economics.about.com/od/smallbigbusiness/a/us_business.htm

2) the top 1 percent of earners pay 21.5 percent of all federal and state taxes. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/0415/Taxes-and-the-rich-How-much-do-they-pay-now

3) Long term investments HAVE TO HAVE FAVORABLE TAX TREATMENTS to encourage those investments in the first place. There should be incentives to invest in enterprise, not dis-incentives as Elizabeth Warren and co. preach

4) When you increase corporate tax rates and decrease corporate profitability, the first thing that goes is jobs. And guess what, it isn't going to be the C-level. It's going to be the same people that these clueless pols are claiming to protect.

Perhaps the most infuriating thing of all is that they are demonizing success. Last time I checked, this country was built on striving to do better, not striving to be the same as everyone else.

I remember when the dems tried the luxury tax to try to get back at those evil rich people. Who got hurt? The blue collar workers who were laid off because demand for luxury products dropped. When will these dems learn to stop being such busy-bodies and just stay out of the market?

There is no question as to who has my vote: The OBVIOUS choice: President Obama.. Just when I thought the "mccain/palin" was a comical challenge.. now we have mitt and paul ryan.. seriously? Who left the time machine open and let these two knuckleheads out? OK sure..These two would be stellar candidates in a "Pre Civil Rights" america in which women minorities and gays "knew their place"...wealth in the hands of the few and corp america was a religion. eg Mad Men.. I'll watch it on tv but I dont want this played out in the white house!.

Newsflash: Its 2012 not 1950 Mittwit.. Just take a look at the DNC vs the RNC audience.. The DNC attendees represent the diaspora of the diversity that is America,, in STARTLING contrast the RNC which has been dubbed " the world's biggest klan rally"... a sea of angry white men.. ( Sure that may be representative of Stone Mountain Georgia.. not the UNITED STATES..I wont even get started non the race baiting LIES and propaganda put out by karl rove and the mitt machine..truly sickening
Oh and lets not even get started on Romneys foreign policy buffoonery.. "russia is our biggest enemy huh mitt? and paul ryan..just wow..Even faux news had to call him out for being a staggering liar.. He told so many lies the fact-checker machine blew up..Keep in mind Ryan is a tea party extremist whose policys are in line with Taliban as far as womens rights and the poor...I would not buy a used car from this lying con man.
God Bless ( help) America

No party can "fix" the economy with a few directives, it is too big and too complex. But if you want to see ANY effort made toward finance reform, support for renewable energy, and an immigration policy that seeks to support the best and brightest of those illegals who arrived here as young children, then of course, vote for democrats, esp. ELIZABETH WARREN. Republican policies will accelerate wealth concentration, as opposed to wealth creation, and will hurt American infrastructure. I believe the main Republican aim is to keep capital & money flowing freely around the earth for the benefit of those FEW who hold most of it. That's not entirely sinister, but it does mean a few big winners, and many that many many "local" citizens will lose their jobs, negotiating positions, and ultimately, their standard of living. Republicans have to obscure this to win, so hence, the religiously-motivated attacks on gays and women's rights, and the amplification of the "birther" B.S. etc.

The left/right paradigm is just theater for the proles.

Both parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

Enjoy your theater. Nothing will change no matter if O'bomney or O'bomney is elected.

The Federal Reserve will still control your money.
The wars will continue.
The bailouts will continue.
The drone strikes will continue.
The erosion of the Constitution will continue.
The Rule of Law will continue to be absent.
The implosion of the economy will still continue.
The police/surveillance state will still grow.
Inflation will still increase.
The Oligarchy will still get richer and control both political parties.
GMO crops will proliferate.
The debt, both personal and national, will increase.
Executive Orders will still be issued.
Gitmo will stay open.
The TSA will continue to grope you and expand their authority and purview.

Call it what you will: Corporatism, Plutocracy, Kleptocracy, Oligarchy, Imperialism. It will continue no matter who is the puppet in the Oval Office.

The US Empire is in the process of Collapse, much as the Roman Empire collapsed.

Enjoy your Bread and Circuses. Or, if you still can exhibit independent thought, break out of the System as much as possible, and begin prepping for the collapse in whatever way you think is reasonable.

Rick...You're absolutely correct Intelligent human beings see with clarity what mitt and lyin..err "ryan" ..are doing.. straight from the playbook of the Original "Reich Wing" Party (Nazi's)..
Power is achieved by evil corrupt men when one conjures up an enemy ( real or imagined) and convinces the gullible masses that he is the only one who can protect them.. This is the playbook of the American Taliban.. ( the Republican Reich Wing Party)..which has been bastardized and infested with a cancer from within.-. The cancer of course is the tea party which has rendered the once respected Republican Party into a trailer park circus of paranoia..

This reich wing fringe element actually believes that the President is trying to "force" us into gay marriage, life begins are "penetration", and that women who are brutally raped by some sick brutal rapist , that the woman needs to carry the fetus to term - If its deemed to be "legitimate rape" by the GOP..Of course the exemption would be for THEIR wives and kids..
LIke Sarah" I read magazines" Palin who got on her hind legs to preach to us about abstinence while her own teen daughter was laying up spreadin em like Velveeta for her bf.. Can you say Party of Hypocrites?

The concept that either of the dominant parties are anything other than hypocrites is absurd. By definition, democrats and republicans are nothing more than pandering mouthpieces scurrying around trying to convince the gullible that they are better than the other.

The Dems want to redistribute wealth and create an idealistic socialist paradise that anyone with a cursory knowledge of economics knows can never work. The Republicans want to preach ridiculous religious rhetoric and force their warped sense of morality down everyone's throats. They are all idiots.

And so are you guys for throwing around stupid Nazi references that not only are moronic but are also disrespectful to those that actually had to endure atrocities at their hands.

Democrats / Republicans Two sides to every coin, and two sides to peoples thoughts, We sit on edge waiting to see which side the country WILL FALL.! Make a call, Heads or tails, Leave it to luck,

Our fate shouldn’t be made by a coin toss, where one side looses and one wins. It’s a dam shame people can’t rig the coin to use heads on both sides , Fix the coin people, Each side has something wrong and something right, Each has something to loose or gain, ( its called powers ) the powers your betting your life on. What’s the odds of us all winning? Zero, Good luck to the winners, Congratulations,
My sympathy to the losers, Wishing you better luck next time, Hope you can wait four more years, and well toss again. Would be great if we could make a 2 headed coin before that. Or set the rules: no cheating, weighting the coin to their side either way , its Heads they win Tails we lose ! Make a call now, and again in four years. good luck!

Curious. The Bama has his new slogan, "FORWARD", of course with his ubiquitous, little neo-swastika icon stuck in the "O".....what's up with that? who else uses a little icon to represent himself? hmmmm i wonder....Anyway, it's ironic, that the Bama uses "forward" when his speech was lifted almost verbatim from Jimmy Carter's acceptance speech in 1980! and he went back to the past in dragging out old Bill Clinton, the champion of women's rights! lol what a joke

ps. I think the Bamas previous slogan was more appropriate....WTF...remember? he claims it stood for "win the future"....again, what's with this harkening back to 1930's slogans like "the future belongs to us" and now the "forward" slogan is very reminiscent of Lenin's banners of "Forward for Communism"! sieg heil y'all
