Why not just put it with alcohol???? Until its absolutely legal for all adults. That is where it will end up anyway in the end. And investors then won't waste all their money on "medical" equipment, etc. and be all pissed off when it gets outright legalized and the people won't care because the lesser of the two evils will be sold from the same store...the liquor store.

I support it. I voted for it. I don't think the influence that CHAD has in our neighborhood will allow for it to open though. Along with the number of schools and the Drug-Free Zones in place, I just don't see it happening.

I would think getting weed through a dispensary would be difficult because you would need a script from the doctor. Right? Those without a script will continue to utilize the many sources already well established. Getting weed is NOT difficult.

Here's a great question for the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce. They (Diane & Abby) are on the record that they would never interfere with any business coming to Charlestown. Let's see what their take is now?

this removes the financial component from the whole equation. no profit motive, no attendant corruption. no corrupting influence, no crimes. that includes white color crime.

I live in Brookline Village with several liquor stores nearby and more in Coolidge Corner. I'd be fine with it here.

I suggest putting one in Copley Square next to BosTix so beautiful and not-so-beautiful people can easily find it.

I have no problem with a shop opening in Charlestown, but it will be hard to find a place that's not too close to a school zone.

There already here there called Drug Dealers... they come with Violence and crime. Why would i want you to legalize it, decriminalize it and make tax revenue from it i am way to closed minded to see that by doing this would actual be better for society. i mean why would we want to spend all that money that we use on the war against drugs to date 1 trillion dollars on schools and educate kids on the effects of drug use and give them an education that out shines the rest of the world. Yes, I want it in my neighborhood of JP! Hope it's within easy access - I might be eligible for it, but if not, it should still be within easy distance so those in pain don't have to travel far to get it. Having been to Denver and Venice, CA, it really made me not want to have the law pass here. I am not opposed to medical marijuana, but walking around in Venice there are people wearing sandwich boards in front of "doctor"'s offices, saying "do you get headaches? Have trouble sleeping? You may need a prescription for medical marijuana". That's disgusting and I absolutely, No, would not want that in my neighborhood or around my children. I also watched the 60 minutes where they said in Denver there are more marijuana stores than starbucks and mcdonalds combined. Did you guys even research what you were voting for?

Sell it where liquor is being sold. Do I have a liquor store next to my home? No.
Would I really want a liquor store (or ANY store) right next to my home? No!
But that has nothing to do with the wisdom of legalizing this for adults.
"Land of the Free" adults should damn well be able to smoke pot if they want to.

It should be attached to a Pharmacy. If it is legalized for all, then it should be tied to full Liquor Stores not limited licenses.

Firstly, in response to FBE, caffeine kills more people than marijuana does. Also, there are plenty cases of death from other drugs like Tylenol and ambien. They are totally different. In fact there are no or at least very few cases of people dying directly from marijuana (according to a documentary I watched recently and have to find again).

I think that having separate stores for it is the best option because marijuana, pharmaceuticals and alcohol are such different drugs! Marijuana is medicine - hence medical marijuana - and it will compete with pharmaceuticals (and not alcohol). If there are separate dispensaries then people can buy and not feel strange about it plus the stores can have baked goods, which may require a separate license... All in all I think having a medical marijuana store in my neighborhood is great because I would much rather see that than lots of liquor stores and pharmacies where people buy concoctions of chemicals to ingest and help their headaches, stomach aches, anxiety and pain, all of which can be helped by medical marijuana.

Why don't Pharmacies dispence it, just as they do other medications. The idea of using liquor stores to dispense makes this sound like recreational use. If this is regulated medication, it needs to be dispensed at Pharmacies(everywhere), where all regulated medication is dispensed!!!! Boston RPh

Take the location issue from a different perspective: where would you NOT want a pharmacy? The insinuations that marijuana will be prescribed indiscriminately, would obviously be associated with crime, or with substances like alcohol and nicotine primarily purchased OTC to cause intoxication is biased reasoning. Leave the prescribing issues to the Pharmacy Board and the Board of Registration in Medicine. If current zoning laws would allow a pharmacy in your neighborhood, then there is no need to write a separate code for another prescription mediciation, unless, of course you really want to set up a zoning code for birth control pills, sedatives; maybe we ought to have a zoning code for Viagra...so it can't be sold within 100 yards of Tent City?

The best way to manage this is to limit them to hospitals and medical clinics that have been open for more than 10 years (remember this is for people with real medical needs). That way we don't have what has happened in California with pot stores all over the place dispensing to anyone who can forge a scrip. I do really think we have opened up pandoras box here as it will get out of control with out any strong limits.

If it is medical the dispense it from a drug store, if it calls for a prescription then that's where it should be dispensed!

I don't really understand the problem with having the dispensaries in the neighborhood. We're talking about sick people getting drugs legally to help them. People are against sick people in the neighborhood? Legal drugs?

We have pharmacies doing the same thing with far more powerful drugs. We have liquor stores selling liquor for no medical purpose.

I'd be happy to have a dispensary in the neighborhood.
