Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Suffolk County

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning and severe thunderstorms warning for Suffolk County for today.

 

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and for the Suffolk County area this afternoon. The tornado warning is for northeastern Suffolk County. 

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 2:30 p.m.

The thunderstorm warning states the Doppler radar has detected "severe storms capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour."

The warning further states severe thunderstorms can produce damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly lightning along with very heavy rain.

"For protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or business."

The flood warning states "thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the area [with] rainfall rates of over an inch and half per hour. Flash flooding of poor drainage areas is expected to begin shortly."

It also states heavy rain can flood roads quickly so do not drive into areas where water covers the road.
