Vietnamese Sandwich Shop Coming to West Roxbury's Centre Street This Month

Van Tang and Tu Vu, a married couple from Lexington, Mass, announced plans to open a take-out Vietnamese sandwich shop 1759 Centre St.

Centre Street, once known for mainly hosting banks, is now beginning to attract a variety of new restaurants to the main stretch of West Roxbury.

Van Tang and Tu Vu, a married couple from Lexington, came before the West Roxbury Neighborhood Council yesterday evening at the Area E-5 Police Station to introduce their new restaurant Bánh Mi Ngon. Given that it was the only item on the agenda, it was a very short and light meeting.

The establishment will be a take-out Vietnamese sandwich and appetizer shop located at 1759 Centre Street, near Christo’s Pizza. They were inspired by their friend Le, owner of Le’s Vietnamese Restaurant in Chestnut Hill’s Atrium Mall, to consider West Roxbury. Le has been in business for more than 15 years.

“I wanted to do something fun for myself and it has always been a passion of mine to open a restaurant,” said Tang.

Tang presently works for a financial planning company in Boston and Vu is an IT Manager at Weston Public Schools. Tang chose not to disclose the name of her company.

The only thing standing between them and opening the restaurant is a health inspection. They are expected to open their doors on May 29.

After viewing the restaurant’s proposed menu, Council member Tony Saroufim noticed how the prices were fairly inexpensive. The “priciest” item on the menu is a grilled ground shrimp sandwich for $4.75.

“With prices like this, you’ll have a line out the door,” said Saroufim.

Look forward to the opening. Will be good not to head over to Dorchester or Chinatown for a fix. Hopefully, come Autumn they could add soup?!

I'm looking forward to this place, too, it's closer to home than the options bostadelphian mentioned. The low prices are incredible!

Le's actually is not affiliated with this business. Their friend who inspired it was a manager at Le's (not Le himself), Lan Nguyen, and she has been in the restaurant business for over 15 years herself. Just a minor correction.

I just got lunch from this place, the tofu banh mi, shrimp and roast pork summer rolls and limeade were all awesome and totaled $9. Service was friendly and prompt. Glad they're in the neighborhood.
