West Roxbury Woman Charged With Driving Drunk in Hingham

A West Roxbury woman had her case continued in Hingham District Court this week. The following information was provided by the Hingham District Court and where charges are mentioned, does not indicate a conviction.

 

 

The recent UMass Amherst graduate from West Roxbury, who crashed her vehicle into a tree in Hingham on Memorial Day will face drunken driving charges.

Catherine A. Salvaggio, 22, of 184 Dent St., Apt. 4, West Roxbury was arraigned in Hingham District Court this week on three counts of operating under the influence of alcohol with injury and negligence, operating under the influence of alcohol, and a marked lanes violation. The case was continued to Oct. 1 and Salvaggio was released on personal recognizance.

On May 28, Salvaggio was  driving North on Route 228 , East Street with three of her friends, when she crashed her Toyota Carolla head on into a large tree.

When police arrived on scene, they found her slumped over the driver's wheel, still conscious and in severe pain.

The three passengers, Cara Ann Birner, 22, of Beverly,  Kristen L. Petreyko, 22, of Hyde Park, and Michael A. Censullo, 22, of Wakefield were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries and later released.  Salvaggio, was released from the Boston Medical Center. Police said she was the only occupant who was wearing a seat belt.

While police investigated the crash, East Street was closed for over five hours at the Route 3A intersection and the intersection of Kilby Street. Police said the four crash victims had graduated UMass Amherst just two weeks before the accident.
