Would You Like Manthorne, Greaton, Pierpont Roads to be Resident Permit Parking?

Residents of Manthorne Road have petitioned for resident permit parking on their street, and were advised that it is rare that just one street is given that status.

Manthorne Road residents met with city officials this week to discuss the possibility of the public way having a resident permit parking program. Residents are concerned by the overflow of traffic from Centre Street, and a Boston Transportation Department engineer advised neighbors that more streets would likely be needed to create a resident permit parking program in the area.

The majority of Manthorne Road residents wanted resident permit parking Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Manthorne residents are reaching out to neighboring streets like Greaton Road and Pierpont Road to see if neighbors wanted to pursue a resident permit parking program.

Greaton Road intersects with Centre Street between Holy Name and the first commercial block including the Upper Crust Pizzeria. Pierpoint Road is farther away from Centre Street, so do non-residents park there, too? How about Redlands Road?

What do you think about having those streets having a resident permit parking program during the weekdays to stop Centre Street overflow? Would it be enforced? Or would the signs be enough to deter parkers?

There are a few different dynamics in play here. First, is the fabulous success of restaurant row filling in the small storefronts on Centre St. bringing in an abundance of hungry diners. Second, the Post Office grabbed a huge chunk of available parking for Centre St. forcing patrons and retaurant workers onto the side streets to park.
The solutions could be- the Post Office parking the mail trucks at another lot freeing up the parking for restaurant patrons and Centre St. shoppers. Or the restaurants could combined resourses and have valet parking for their patrons.

We need Mt. Vernon St. to be resident only also. With the Lyndon Pilot School just a block down the street and the commuter rail West Roxbury stop only a short way down the hill residents do not get to park in the street on any weekdays! And when there is snow and the curb is no where in sight, we can't even get out of our drives.
