September is in full swing with children going back to school, cooler temperatures arriving and the new beginning of fall activities. Football fields will soon be filled with Saturday morning games, leaves will be frantically raked from every lawn and once again, our bookshelves will be stuffed to the brim with tales of adventure, romance and suspense which we hope will keep us warm by the crackle of our fireplaces.
Reading is one of the best past times to overcome the chill that commandeers the autumn months so make sure that everyone has a fresh, full stack of books including a few for your kids section! While favorites including “Where the Wild Things Are”, “Goodnight Moon” and “Make Way for Ducklings” are always classic comforts to begin story hour with, try adding the newly released, “The Candy Roses of Cape Care”, to your child’s reading list this year. A perfect way to hold on to the memories of the warmer season, this beach book will keep you reeling in the surf, sea and sand throughout the year.
Written by Suzie Canale, a local children’s book author from the Parkway area, “The Candy Roses of Cape Care” is the third storybook in The Beantown Tales series (following “The Land of Chocolate Cosmos” and “The Popcorn Hydrangea of Poppingtom”), which begins on a magical beach enchanted with roses that grow every imaginable candy.
When a group of cousins becomes distraught when their beautiful bay is polluted with trash from litter bug tourists, the children are determined to clean up the beach and re-grow the gorgeous bushes of blooms. Inspiring their community to end water pollution and to initiate their town's first Earth Day, kids learn that they, too, can make key changes within their own communities!
“The Candy Roses of Cape Care” is illustrated by Kevin Coffey where pictures are designed to reflect Suzie’s love for New England's seashores of Gloucester and Cape Cod. The book also includes a flower biography of the inspired “Candy Rose”, which can sometimes be seen growing wildly along the ocean's coast. Florist’s such as Exotic Flowers of Roslindale, MA are having a ball carrying this new inventory item for baby baskets and holiday gifts, as they are able to promote a whimsical view of flowers as well as educate their younger cliental with the “sweet” tales of heroism.
The Beantown Tale books are the recent recipient of Honorable Mentions in the 2011 New England Book Festival, 2012 New York Book Festival and the 2012 Hollywood Book Festival as well as being named the 2011 Green Book of the Massachusetts Greenschools Organization. Where all of the books are hopeful to empower children to brainstorm & implement their own solutions towards problems present in our society (environmental, humanitarianism and animal kindness), the stories also entertain while tantalizing tummies with yummy food imagery.
The Beantown Tale books are sold on several sites including Barnes and Nobles, Target, Sears, Powell’s Books and Amazon, select local retail outlets or on the author’s personal website, www.thebeantowntales.com where all books ordered can be inscribed and autographed.
