How long have you been going to the Roslindale Hunt?
Oh… I have been the star attraction at the Egg Hunt for 17 years and wouldn’t miss the opportunity to visit such a great neighborhood with so many wonderful children and adults. I would say this is my favorite stop before my big night delivering goodies to the youngsters. When I leave Rozzie, I head right home to soak my feet before I head out on my trip.
What were your favorite things about this year's hunt?
This year was especially enjoyable, with the nice warm weather and sooo… many children who all went home with some of the 5,000 eggs in the park. The children here are so polite and caring and always make sure the little tots go home with some treats. Some of the children were generous and offered me their drawings, gold coins and Easter eggs. Toward the end, one girl approached me who was so excited that both she and her brother won two of the contests! It is a wonderful event.
What is it like working with/meeting the Mayor Menino?
Mayor Menino is always fun to work with. He loves children and is always there to cut the ribbon and watch them have fun. A broken toe and a bad knee can’t keep this Mayor away from Roslindale.
What do you do the rest of the year? Any favorite books or crafts?
During the year, I love to take long hops through the woods and farms in my neighborhood and I practice tai chi and yoga to help me stay in shape for my Easter rounds. I sit around the fire on winter nights reading all types of books, The Velveteen Rabbit, Peter Cottontail. I spend my days tending to the garden, making chocolate, painting, making baskets, sewing, cooking and baking things like my Blue Ribbon Carrot Cake and Carrot & Celery Soup recipes.
I love the energy and dedication to the community that so many Roslindale residents and merchants share. Community organizations join them in working together to make the neighborhood safe and welcoming to all, and there are many services for children in the schools and community centers. Volunteers have done a great job revitalizing Roslindale Village with the popular Farmer’s Market and new restaurants while keeping the many valued, long-time service-oriented business. The town center, Adams Park, is to be envied by many towns.
Most of all, I love the children. They are smart, study hard, read a lot, and do well in school. They are full of fun and partake in many out-of-school activities. They obey their parents and teachers, are good to their brothers and sisters, and kind and helpful to everyone they meet. I can’t wait ‘til next year!
