Restauranteurs weren't only dishing out food, they were also dishing out plans for new locations, restaurant features and more.
Dishing dishes of fish is not on everyone's wishlist. But sometimes fish is what folks prefer, when it comes to West Roxbury food fare. Meat and potatoes, and vegetarian options are great, too. Oh, what the hey, put it all in one place, and let me choose. Loose lips in the food business do not sink ships, in fact, it's quite the opposite, as having a buzz about your bistro, pizza place, or cafe, is wonderful to any owner's ears. At West Roxbury Main Streets' 1st annual Taste of West Roxbury, not only were folks talking about how spectacular and enjoyable the event was - still while eating - but the restauranteurs were dishing on their menus, locations and more. While Al Wadi's Executive Chef Walid Massad served hummus, grape leaves, …

A confusing situation of a shared locker leads to one member losing thousands in jewelry.
A member of Work Out World told District E-5 officers that he had locked his possessions in a locker and when he came back it had been cut off his locker, and about $6,000 worth of jewelry was missing. The front desk attendant told police she had cut the lock off after a male guest came to her and said someone had placed a lock on his locker. The employee told police she made an announcement on the loud speaker asking for the owner of the lock to come and remove it, but no one came forward, so she cut off the lock. Later the victim came and said someone had cut the lock of his locker and two items of jewelry valued at $6,000 was gone, according to a Boston Police report. He said some items were there, while others were not. It is …

A package store, a packy, liquor store, wines and spirits - what's the best place to buy alcohol in the neighborhood?
This week's West Roxbury Patch's Readers' Choice Poll is - what is the best package store in West Roxbury? Some people call them liquor stores, some people call them package stores, and some folks call them packies. There are several respected options spread out through the neighborhood. The first three mentioned in this article offer more variety and options than the other two. Blanchard's Wine & Spirits has its own events room, offers seminars, wine classes, and the famous 100+ free wine nights. Gary's Liquors on the VFW Parkway is run by the affable Gary Park, and also offers a fine selection of wine, beer, apertifs and the more. Macy's Wine and Spirits has been well-situated on Centre Street for years and has a loyal customer base…

Koko Fit Club joined the Shaw's Plaza recently, adding another business to what is being termed 'Wellness Plaza'.
Koko FitClub is not one of those musclehead gyms - it's actually quite the opposite, which is why owner Lana Lemeshov decided to open two of the gyms in the area. Koko FitClub of West Roxbury opened on April 2 and had already found a client base before the doors opened. "I’ve been a member of every single gym in Boston," said Lemeshov, "(there) was always something that didn’t work for me. I always found a reason why - it wasn’t a convenient location, or hours." Some gyms were too much of socialization spots, and others didn't feel right for assorted reasons. She added she spent a lot of money on gyms through the years, often hardly using the facilities she had paid to utilize. Nonetheless, Lemeshov, a mother of one, who works at MIT, …

City Councilor Mike Ross said Charles Street on Beacon Hill is an example of a business district where retail is being strangled by too many street-level banks.
Clusters of banks can strangle the retail vitality of certain Boston streets, warned Boston District 8 City Councilor Mike Ross. Ross said Charles Street on Beacon Hill is an example where too many "big box banks" are buying up storefronts at inflated prices mom and pop shops can't afford. The resulting row of banks deadens what could be lively retail zones. "It’s not right for every street to make this 'No Bank First Floor' zoning change, but I believe it’s right for Charles Street on Beacon Hill," said Ross, who represents District 8. Ross said that banks close at 5 p.m. and aren't open on weekends, all of which has a deadening effect for the neighborhood businesses. He made his remarks at Wednesday's City Council meeting. The matter …

Proposed restaurant owner at 1759 Centre Street goes in front of Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday.
Tomorrow the owner of a proposed Vietnamese sandwich shop is going in front of the Boston Licensing Board to open up at 1759 Centre St. As UniversalHub's Adam Gaffin pointed out, that small area on Centre Street has become a mini "Restaurant Row" - with Christo's, Thai Spice, Los Amigos, the Red-Eyed Pig, Himalayan Bistro, West on Centre, Porter Cafe and the Upper Crust Pizzeria. And with the 1st annual Taste of West Roxbury happening on Thursday night, now is as good as a time as ever, to discuss the cultural cuisines offered in West Roxbury. So what kind of restaurant would you like to see come to West Roxbury?
