A year ago Hurricane Irene ripped through the Northeast damaging trees, knocking down wires, and causing major problems for many of us. West Roxbury was hit hard last year, with many tress being knocked down across the neighborhood. Here are some of the photos from last year's destruction.
Before putting on the pads, the Parkway Pop Warner football teams need to fulfill 10 hours of physical training. That doesn't mean the boys weren't out at Billings Field having a great time! Running, catching, tackling, blocking, all the while getting plenty of grass stains - the Parkway Pop Warner coaches drilled the boys at Billings Field. And it's not too late to sign-up for the teams. Boys and girls ages 7 to 15 from West Roxbury, Roslindale and Jamaica Plain can join the teams.  Here's the league's website, or come down to Billings Field on a weekday night from 6-8 p.m. during practice…
The Parkway Pop Warner Cheerleading teams are working hard practicing their routines every night at Billings Field from 6 to 8 p.m. Here are some pics of one of their first practices led by Laura Susich. There is still time to sign-up for the cheerleading and football squads. Children from West Roxbury, Roslindale and Jamaica Plain, ages 7 to 15, can join by visiting Billings Field from 6-8 p.m. on a weekday night.
Red Sox slugger David Ortiz flashed his pearly whites, instructed players on the importance of education, and had a little photo session on Monday. Ortiz led the Citi Private Pass baseball clinic at Catholic Memorial. See a video here of Ortiz's daughter showing off that Ortiz swing - and more on the baseball clinic.
Parents took to the shade while their children hit up the Hynes Playground spray lot on Tuesday to beat the heat.
West Roxbury resident Paul Treseler took advantage of the last couple of days of the Tall Ships by visiting them several times. He was there when they came into Boston on Saturday. Said Treseler, "I was out on the wall of Fort Strong on Long Island to catch these."  On Sunday, he and his family went out on a harbor boat, and visited Arc Gloria, the Colombian Tall Ship.   His boat shots were taken from South Boston.

The Parkway Girls U-12 team won the President's Cup Tournament Championship this past weekend in a heart-wrenching game that couldn't be settled after two five-minute overtimes. The Parkway girls ended up winning on penalty kicks in Medfield, in the tough single elimination bracketed tourney. Facing the Milford-Hopedale Renegades, Parkway scored four minutes remaining in the first half, said Coach Joe Sullivan. The Renegades would tie the score in the second half, and it would remain tied until the penalty kicks, when Parkway won, 2-0. Said Coach Joe Sullivan, "We began the tournament …
On Monday, June 12, 2012, the sixth-grade class of St. Theresa School visited the State House, and met state Sen. Michael Rush, who gave the students an educational and trivia filled tour. "Senator Rush is a wonderful and entertaining historian, and during the tour he challenged the students with many perplexing questions. We thank Senator Rush for a great day!" said Laura Cloherty of St. Theresa's Development/Advancement Dept. The following photos were taken by Carolyn Chabot.

Led by the newest Parkway politician, Lord Mayor Richie Gormley, the Parkway Little League Parade celebrated the league's 60th anniversary on a beautiful Saturday. One by one, teams marched down from Roslindale's Fallon Field down Centre Street as the The New Liberty Jazz Band followed. Little Cardinals, Dodgers, Orioles and the beloved Red Sox, sponsored by local entities cheered, smiled, and laughed their way to Baker Street.
