Private, one-on-one GUITAR and BASS LESSONS with STEVE HURL.  GUITAR: All levels, most styles.  BASS: Beginners.  I'm a pro guitarist with more than 20 years performing experience, and 18 years teaching experience. I've mostly played blues, folk and alternative rock on stage, although I have wide knowledge of other styles.  I teach the theory you need to play music in most common situations.  But I also pay close attention to technique, helping students foster good playing habits and to avoid bad ones.  I've given well over 1000 performances, and recorded/released five collections of my own original material.

I can help to improve your knowledge of: chords and how to use them; scales and improvisation; how to figure out songs by ear; how to read music; common tendencies within musical styles; how to play more expressively; guitar maintenance; career tips, and more.  Specialties include finger-style and slide guitar.  I often use material that students bring to me, but I do have a large music collection from which to draw study examples. You can better focus your efforts by getting immediate coaching from a trained eye and ear-- and you can't get that from a DVD or YouTube!

I have helped several hundred guitarists (and a few beginning bassists) to learn more about their instruments. I have worked with students from many locations in eastern MA, but I most typically see students in the Boston area, esp. West Roxbury, Roslindale, Milton, Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park and Dedham.  Current references are available. I'm patient & reliable. My rates are competitive.
