DESCRIPTION:Newton Choral Society\, under the direction of director David
  Carrier will   present &ldquo\;Luxurious Harmonies\,&rdquo\; featuring 
 Frank Martin Mass for Double Chorus and Daniel Pinkham Wedding Cantata. 
 The concert will also include Johannes Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes perfo
 rmed by a   chamber chorus of NCS singers. Mark Feldhusen is the pianist
  for accompanied   works.\nFrank Martin (1890-1974)\, son of a Calvinist
  minister\, wrote his Mass for   Double Chorus in 1922\, but considered 
 it initially between &ldquo\;him and God&rdquo\; and   did not allow it 
 to be performed until 1963.&nbsp\;   It has since emerged as one of the 
 great works of the 20th century for   unaccompanied chorus.&nbsp\; Offer
 ing rich   vocal textures\, it is noted both for its grand scale and pro
 found intimacy.\nDaniel Pinkham composed Wedding Cantata in 1956 as a gi
 ft for   the marriage of two friends.&nbsp\; Using   Biblical texts from
  the Song of Solomon\, it encompasses many moods in the   course of its

 the direction of David   Carrier\, a gifted organist\, orchestral conduc

 tion as one of Boston&rsquo\;s premiere   metropolitan choral groups. Th
 e more than 80 members of the chorus come   mostly from communities arou
 nd Boston and the Metrowest area. NCS is   distinguished by the value it
  places on educational outreach as well as   musical excellence. The cho
 rus takes pride in its frequent collaborations   with prestigious solois
