Giving Back To End Childhood Hunger

National Fundraiser Supports "No Kid Hungry" Campaign

Prime Toyota in West Roxbury, owned and operated by Prime Motor Group, will participate in the Ninth Annual Great American Bake Sale on Sunday, May 27, from 3 - 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Share Our Strength's "No Kid Hungry Campaign," a national charitable initiative working to end hunger in America.   Prime Toyota is located at 1605 VFW Parkway in West Roxbury.

In addition to baked goods, raffle tickets will also be sold for $2 each. Prizes are set to include donated gift cards from local merchants such as Sophia Italian Steakhouse, Sky Restaurant and Waves Car Wash in addition to a complimentary car detailing from Prime Toyota.

More than 16 million children in America face hunger.  Since 2003, 1.7 million people have participated in the Great American Bake Sale, raising more than $6 million -- funds Share Our Strength uses in a variety of ways to: purchase equipment, supplies and utensils to serve meals to at-risk children;  work with Federal and state governments and local nonprofits to make sure children and parents at-risk of hunger are using the nutrition programs for which they’re eligible; cover the cost of opening and hiring staff for additional meal sites for children;  provide mobile food pantries or cafeterias for kids who don’t have transportation to meal sites;  teach kids and their families how to plan, shop for and cook healthy, affordable meals that everyone can enjoy.

The Bake Sale at Prime Toyota is being organized and hosted by Stefani Lydon, Director of Business Development for Prime Motor Group. Lydon said, "Our team of volunteers is called The Prime Bakers.  Everyone is extremely proud to be participating in the Great American Bake Sale this year because every cookie sold and every dollar donated will have a huge impact on a child's well-being.  We encourage everyone to stop by our Toyota dealership on May 27, enjoy some treats and maybe win a great prize -- it's all for a very worthy cause."

Lydon pointed out that, through Share Our Strength's fundraising efforts:

• $1 can help provide a hungry child with 10 healthy meals.

• $4 can help provide a child facing hunger with a backpack full of healthy food over a weekend when school meals are not available.

• $9 can help connect a child with healthy lunches during summer when school is out.

• $35 can help a child care center provide free afterschool snacks and suppers to at-risk children all year long.

• $65 can provide a grab-n-go breakfast cart to an elementary school so that every student starts every school day with a healthy meal.

Great American Bake Sale Director Amy Crowell commented, “With one in five kids in America struggling with hunger, it’s more important than ever to get involved and help connect children with the food they need.  Every year, we see families, kids, businesses, churches and organizations of every kind signing up to host sales and raise money to help make sure that every child in the U.S. gets the food he or she needs.”
