1. State Senator Mike Rush (D-Norfolk & Suffolk) recently co-sponsored a piece of legislation known as the PAWS Act, which would increase fines and penalties against animal abusers as well as create an animal abuse registry.

“When we hear horrific reports of animal abuse in the news, it presents an opportunity to revisit existing protections in state law and examine their efficacy,” said Sen. Mike Rush. “If there are ways we can prevent this kind of mistreatment by strengthening our laws, it is incumbent upon us to do so. I am pleased to have co-sponsored this common-sense and appropriate legislation to further protect vulnerable animals.”

2. West Roxbury Main Streets fun run series will continue at The Parlour on Saturday, November 9: 2pm at 1727 Centre Street.

3. Kevin Cullen & Shelley Murphy, Award-winning Boston Globe journalists will be at West on Centre Thursday at 7 p.m.on Thursday to discuss their  The New York Times best- seller, “Whitey Bulger: America’s Most Wanted Gangster and the Manhunt that Brought Him to Justice.”   Tickets to the event are $25.

4. On Thursday at 6:30 p.m.  storyteller and musician Judy Cook will perform "One Man's Civil War." Cook, in period costume, will read the Civil War correspondence of her great-great grandparents and play and sing the tunes of the time. CDs and books will be available for sale.

5. Thursday will be foggy with a high near 59 degrees.
