Trash Pickup Reminder, Free-Throw Contest and New Year's Eve Service

A roundup of five things to know for Friday, Dec. 27.

1. Trash & Recycling Schedule for This Week: If your normal trash and recycling pickup day is Wednesday in West Roxbury, collection will be delayed one day this week due to the Christmas holiday. 

2. The Boston Elks will hold a 2013-2014 Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest on Friday at the Roche Family Community Center in West Roxbury. 

3. Christmas is Over, but What About New Year's Eve? Have plans to head downtown for First Night this year? Visit the First Night website for all you need to know about NYE in Boston. And if you're heading downtown, here's the MBTA schedule of service for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

4. ICYMI: Mayor-elect Marty Walsh is planning quite the bash for his inauguration party. The $35 ticket gets in into the event, held Jan. 6 at the Hynes Convention Center.
