Fundraiser in West Roxbury to Benefit The Jimmy Fund on Friday, 6/27

Billy’s Brigade is a contingent of friends, family, and co-workers who have joined together against Cancer.  They “walk for our heroes and yours,” as their t-shirts read.  Billy Brown, formerly of Roslindale, born to a County Mayo mom, was diagnosed with Pheochromocytoma and passed away in 2006 after a five-year battle. He left behind a wife and two daughters, ages 8 and 5. He left those who remember him with memories to cherish and a fight to continue. He was a graduate of Catholic Memorial and worked as Local 17 sheet metal worker.

The team originated in 2007 when Billy’s youngest sister asked her two best friends from high school if they were willing to participate in The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. That September they did 13 miles and after finishing, were determined to conquer the 26.2! Since 2007, Billy’s Brigade has grown from 3 members to 15, including Billy’s daughters MaryKate (16) and Megan (13).

The Jimmy Fund solely supports Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, raising funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of community fundraising events.

The story of the Jimmy Fund is one of grassroots involvement — of thousands of people organizing bake sales, lemonade stands, runs, walks, golf tournaments, dances, and softball games to raise money for cancer research and care.

On June 27, 2014, Billy’s Brigade will hold their annual fundraising event at the Irish Social Club of Boston in West Roxbury. Doors will open at 6:30 and Curragh’s Fancy will begin playing fine Irish music at 8:00. There is no cover charge and all are welcome. The Brigade will be holding an opportunity drawing with over 40 prizes and items will be available for silent auction. Checks made payable to The Jimmy Fund are accepted. This is sure to be an evening of laughter and grand music—all benefiting a wonderful cause.  For more information and a sneak peak at the prizes, check out Billy’s Brigade Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BillysBrigade
