Mom Takes Real Action to Eliminate Plastic Bag Waste

As you walk up and down the aisles of your local grocery store, passing the deli counter and other shoppers, there is the likely possibility of having many things in common with your fellow shoppers and you do not even know it. Maybe the most relatable quality you have to each other is that you are both parents. If Kristen Brown, the President and Co-Founder of MY ECO, an environmentally friendly company that offers an incentive to shoppers using reusable bags at stores in exchange for donations to a local school, was the shopper next to you, the odds of being connected through parenthood is very likely as she is a mother of two.

One could assume the co-founder of a company is a workaholic with crazed aspirations of making as much money as possible, but this is not what drives Kristen Brown. Brown is a dedicated businesswomen looking to make a difference in the world. Her mission through MY ECO is to decrease the use of disposable bags and drive reuse behavior through personal accountability and community achievement. But not only is she dedicated to MY ECO and the mission it stands behind, but also a dedicated parent. “As a mother of two, I’m well versed in the needs of our target market. Essentially, the system [MY ECO Reuse Bag Set] has four bags that are stored in one contained clutch and fit like a puzzle into the grocery cart when open. The bags can hold over $200 worth of groceries,” she says.

Kristen is following in her father, Gordon Dancy’s, footsteps of developing a modern change for the way we live. Dancy is the man who popularized the plastic bag in the United States. Starting in 1977, plastic bags have increasingly replaced paper bags because they were depleting our forests. Now, plastic bags are being replaced by reusable ones. And after being unsatisfied with the bulkiness and disorganization of other reusable bags, Kristen invented her own set.

Like most of you shopping at the grocery stores for tonight’s dinner or the school lunch that needs to be made each day, Kristen does the same thing. If she were standing next to you by the apples, in her cart would be a MY ECO Reusable Bag Set because using reusable bags is an easy way to help reduce single use bags.

Keep in mind; if 100 parents buy and reuse their bags each week, then they eliminate 100,000 plastic bags a year! Visit www.getmyeco.com for more information or to purchase your bag system!
