SHERIFF TOMPKINS VISITS HYDE PARK YMCA TO CELEBRATE LEGACY OF MAYOR MENINO

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins joined a host of past and present elected officials, community residents, members of the Hyde Park YMCA and other luminaries who were gathered to help honor the legacy of service given to the City of Boston by Mayor Thomas Menino.

Inside the YMCA facility that has been rededicated and renamed for Mayor Menino, Sheriff Tompkins was joined by State Senator Michael Rush, State Representative Angelo Scaccia, City Councilor Rob Consalvo, Stacey Lucchino of the Boston Red Sox Foundation and more than 100 others to pay tribute to the man whom some have described as “visionary” and “transformative” over his record 20-year service as Mayor of Boston.

“There really hasn’t been a municipal leader like Mayor Menino throughout the history of the City of Boston,” said Sheriff Tompkins. “In his time as Mayor, he’s transformed the city in some truly meaningful ways and he’s left an imprint that will never be forgotten. Mayor Menino has established an indelible legacy.”

Before the unveiling of a picture featuring the building that now bears his name, Mayor Menino stepped to the podium to thank those in attendance for their support and admiration.

“I want to thank everyone for their support,” said Mayor Menino. “It’s really humbling. To be honored by the place where you spent so much of your time growing up… it’s really special.”
