West Roxbury Community Centers' Summer Stars Honored

Summer Stars were honored with an event at Jillian's for their contributions to a positive summer in Boston.

Several Parkway-area kids were recognized as Summer Stars by Mayor Thomas Menino for their contributions to Boston Centers for Youth & Families centers to create a positive summer in Boston.

The Stars, ranged in age from 8 to 18, were recently commended at a lunch reception at Jillian’s.

“I am proud to join you and your families in celebrating your accomplishments this summer,” said Menino, via press release. “I have no doubt you will continue to make a positive difference. I look forward to seeing great things from this group in the future.”

This year’s Summer Stars were nominated by BCYF staff members. Nominees were recognized for a variety of positive contributions, including peer mentoring, creating programming opportunities, volunteering, and consistently going out of their way to help others.

“These young people deserve to be celebrated for their hard work, positive attitudes and concern for others. This is a special group of youth who I urge to stay engaged with their community center and continue to be a role model for their peers,” said Daphne Griffin, Chief of Human Services and Executive Director of BCYF.
