Allandale Woods Gets a Cleanup from Professionals Specializing in Urban Spaces

Allandale Woods got a cleanup this week from the Boston design firm Stantec. 

More than 40 Stantec volunteers spent Tuesday afternoon raking, weeding, resurfacing trails, and making other improvements to the woods. Having Stantec employees tend to the woods was a perfect fit due to the company's specialization in designing and working with urban spaces. So the company's landscape architects, civil engineers, and architects tending to Allandale Woods lends more professional expertise to their efforts as well.

“This day of volunteering will not only further support Stantec’s commitment to community, it will bring our team members together to make a coordinated, local impact,” said Stantec president and chief executive officer Bob Gomes. “Our employees have been serving their communities for decades, but bringing them together on one day like this just emphasizes what a difference we can make.”

“The very nature of our work involves designing spaces like this for the community,” said Stantec landscape architect and New England regional leader Joe Geller. “Our employees volunteer their time to all sorts of organizations, but opportunities like this are a great way to share our expertise with the community.”

Allandale Woods is in West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain and is "Boston's second largest  unfragmented woodland" according to the city's website.
