The Upper Crust Pizzeria in West Roxbury is closing. The co-owners, all Parkway families, posted about the hard decision to close the Centre Street business on its Facebook page.

"...as any small business owner knows, it is a time taking endeavor to own and run a business and sometimes the time it takes is at the expense of our families and other careers. Therefore, our decision to sell, although bittersweet, is the best for all of us at this time," wrote the Mulry, Regan and Santangelo families.

The local franchise had been fighting to stay open even while the Upper Crust Pizzeria company endured bankruptcy and lawsuits from previous employees. Those problems with the parent company happened before the West Roxbury franchise opened, but it said Kelly Santangelo to Patch.

A call to Upper Crust was not immediately returned to Patch.

The following was posted on the West Roxbury Upper Crust's Facebook page:

Dear Valued Customers, Community, Family & Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that The Upper Crust Pizzeria of West Roxbury will be closing on Sunday, April 28th. We would like to thank all of our loyal customers and the community (especially West Roxbury Main Streets) for their support during the last four years. We have not only seen many of our friends become our customers, we have also had many of our customers become friends. We also would like to thank all of our employees, many of whom have been with us throughout the entire time we have been open.

However, as any small business owner knows, it is a time taking endeavor to own and run a business and sometimes the time it takes is at the expense of our families and other careers. Therefore, our decision to sell, although bittersweet, is the best for all of us at this time. We are looking forward to the new restaurant that will be opening soon at our location and hope the community is as supportive to them as they have been to us. As we wind down our business we would like to encourage anyone to utilize their dinner vouchers and gift cards which we have donated to many charity and community fundraisers. The Upper Crust gift cards will be continued to be honored at the six other Upper Crust locations, the nearest being on Harvard St in Brookline.

Thank you again for all of your support,
The Mulry, Regan and Santangelo Families
