Hundreds Taste Free Wine at West Roxbury Blanchards

The Annual Fall Grand Tasting was Thursday at Blanchards.

Customers lined up at Blanchards liquor store on Wednesday night to taste hundreds of wines from around the world.

The Annual Fall Grand Tasting is a tradition at Blanchards  to give customers a chance to experience new wines and learn about everything that makes each region and bottle unique, including history, vintage and climate.

Stephen Grant, a wine buyer at Blanchards in West Roxbury, said the event allows customers to try unique bottles from every major wine producing country from all across the world.

“The most important thing to us is to allow people to try a huge variety of wines that they wouldn’t normally be able to try,” Grant said.  “ It’s all for free.  The most important thing about wine to us is there’s great variety. Some times people get stuck on one or two wines and we like people to open out and try many different wines.”

Angela Nivoro, a West Roxbury resident, has attended the last three Grand Tastings at Blanchards and said each event have been a learning experience.

“What I enjoy most  is hearing about why each wine is presented,” she said.

Wine samples were poured from sales representatives from a variety of different distributors.  Guests were able to sample an unlimited amount of wines from reds to whites to flavored brands from everywhere from Italy, Argentina, Spain and France to as far away as Australia.  They were also given a variety of cheeses and deli meats to pair with their drink.

“What it really does for our store is to highlight what we have to offer,” Grant said.  “The real hope is for people to come back for more.”
