New Apartments To Be Built at Forest Hills MBTA Stop

The Commons at Forest Hills Station was proposed earlier this year.

The Boston Redevelopment Authority approved plans for a rental housing community adjacent to the Forest Hills Station last month.

The new apartments will be named the Commons at Forest Hills Station, and construction is expected to start in the Spring, according to Maria Farrah Howell of the Farrah Consulting Group.

The Commons at Forest Hills Station is expected to create 283 new rental apartments ranging in size from studios and one bedrooms to larger two-and three bedrooms on a 122,172 square-foot site, Howell  said in a statement.

The new development will also create a new public realm along Washington Street, with the addition of larger sidewalk, a new bike lane, additional trees, public open space, and new period lighting.

The developers have committed $25,000 toward the planning and design of a new pedestrian and bicycle pathway behind the site, which would connect with the Southwest Corridor Pathway, according to Howell.

The project will also provide the community with a traffic study and extensive traffic mitigation measures, totaling over $200,000.

The Commons at Forest Hills will be located at 3593-3615 Washington Street in Jamaica Plain, just a bus ride away from West Roxbury.
