New Program Would Allow Residents to Text Storefront Ideas for West Roxbury

Residents in West Roxbury who would like to have a say in what new businesses come to town may soon be able to do so via text message. 

Boston officials are testing a program that would allow residents and visitors to text message their ideas on what they'd like to see fill vacant storefronts throughout the city, according to Boston.com.

As part of the effort, signs hung in the windows of vacant shops would give anyone walking by a list of options for what could fill the space. The passerby would then be asked to text their ideas to a phone number to inform city officials, and a particular neighborhood's Main Streets program would choose the list of options for each space, according to Boston.com. 

West Roxbury Main Streets recently announced that the group hopes to have the plan in place soon for West Roxbury, and asked residents to send any ideas their way.
