Q&A: Summertime with West Roxbury Main Streets' Executive Director

WRMS' Executive Director Kara O'Connor talks about the Taste of West Roxbury, new businesses and how her summer is going.

 

West Roxbury Patch checked in with Kara O'Connor, the executive director of to hear about the latest happenings on Centre Street and more.

Patch: How's the summer been going for West Roxbury Main Streets? What has WRMS' focus been during the summer?

O'Connor: The City of Boston recently held a business competition to find a solution that helps small businesses use social media to drive sales and win customers. Privy, a local company, was selected as the winner of this competition. We have been working to roll out this program to our small businesses. Solarize Boston is summertime campaign to make solar more affordable and easily accessible for the city’s homeowners and small businesses. They will be hosting several workshops this summer, visit www.wrms.org for a list of dates and locations.

We have also been planning for fall programming and strengthening our partnerships with other West Roxbury non-profits and volunteer groups.

Patch: Are there events coming up in the fall that people should know about?

O'Connor: We'll be ready with details soon but have plans including some of our familiar themes, as well as new partnerships with neighbors.

Patch: What's new on West Roxbury's "Main Street"? What are you excited about?

O'Connor: We are excited about the new restaurants that have opened on West Roxbury's restaurant row in the past year including, , , and . Our newest restaurant, , opened in June and is a great addition to West Roxbury.

Patch: After the success of the - can it be topped next year?

O'Connor: We definitely set the bar high last year, but interest is even higher from folks who didn't get to participate last year.
