“Marika has made a great mark in the community,” Goldman said.  “People really like her creativity, her sense of design, her taste in clothing and her personality. Fabitique is not just a storefront, people are always walking in here.”

Since opening, Gaurenszky has engaged with the West Roxbury community, holding fashion shows on Spring Street featuring her own customers.  She also always allows her customers to pet her dog, Norman Jean, who wags her tail extra fast when customers purchase her products.

Patch sat down with the owner to learn a little more about the woman behind the West Roxbury boutique.

Patch: Why did you decide to open Fabutique?

Gaurenszky: It  was always something I wanted to do and I felt like it was needed on this side of West Roxbury.  I felt like West Roxbury needed something like it.

Patch:  Where did you get your passion for fashion?

Gaurenszky:  It’s just in me. I was always one who could hunt out different clothing for friends. I was the go-to girl.  I started out doing trunk-shows and it turned in to this shortly after.

Patch: You opened in 2012, is this your first business?

Gaurenszky: I sell Real Estate and have been in sales, so that is also my own business. So far, everything has been great. I’ve been welcomed and the community has been awesome.  Lots of my regulars are from here and they have been very supportive.

Patch: Are you still doing real estate while managing Fabutique?

Gaurenszky: Yes, I still sell real estate.  That’s my real job (laughs).

Patch: What do you do differently than other businesses?

Gaurenszky: I try to find unique pieces.  I don’t buy a lot of any particular piece, so everything is very different.  I like to think I make it more of a personal shopping experience for my regulars.  I even text message my customers pictures of different items that I think they will love. I try to cater to everyone and get to know their style. When I know they are looking for something special, I get it for them.  I cater to all types of customers whether they’re looking for  small or large sizes.

Patch:  How would you describe your products?

Gaurenszky: They’re trendy but sophisticated.  I have pieces that can go from fun to professional.

Patch: What are your hottest items?

Gaurenszky: A lot of people like the tunic dresses with leggings.  It’s a lot of leggings, a lot of textures, leathers with laces, and leathers with sweaters.

Patch:  Why did you decide to open in West Roxbury?

Gaurenszky:  I’m from the area.  I grew up here and I love it here.

Patch:
What do you like best about your West Roxbury customers?

Gaurenszky:  They stay loyal to the businesses in the area.  It’s a great community.

Fabutique is located at 164 Spring Street.
