Mitchell: The goal of Ethos’ West Roxbury Rocks event is celebrate the fifth anniversary of, and raise funds for, our AgeWell West Roxbury initiative that supports the well-being of elderly and disabled. The program helps seniors "age in place" and offers vital support to their caregivers. It features educational workshops, exercise and balance programs and social events, offered free or at minimal cost to seniors.

Ethos’ AgeWell West Roxbury offers healthy aging classes on a variety of topics including regular physical activity; healthy eating; staying smoke-free and staying socially connected. The generous support from the community will go to continue and grow programming, and to be able to offer AgeWell classes to more seniors.

Patch: What are some particulars of the event? Music, dancing, food, a silent auction? Who is playing?

Mitchell: It’s going to be a fun-filled evening, with music by Tuxedo Junction, dance demonstrations by the Tony Williams Dance Center in Jamaica Plain and food by .

There will also be a silent auction, run by our friends at the as well as, several raffle items.

Patch: What should people wear? What will you be wearing?

Mitchell: West Roxbury has the highest percentage of seniors living in their own homes – 25% of the population in WR. AgeWell West Roxbury offers programs that help these seniors maintain better health, enjoy social activities and be connected with their community through workshops, luncheons and special events.

Patch: Why does West Roxbury rock?

Mitchell: The residents of West Roxbury rock because they hold the same values that Ethos does: care, compassion and community. On any given week, West Roxbury residents are rocking their world because they are helping others out whether young or old.
