Past president David Peterson told Patch why he likes the auction: "It's different than many auctions because it's primarily a 'live' auction. The items are affordable and there are some super values. It's particularly interesting when the bidding gets really competitive."

Items up for the bid in the live auction include handmade quilts, overnight hotel stays in Boston and Cambridge, Red Sox tickets, Patriots tickets, and many items donated by local businesses and individuals.

Also through the Kiwanis Foundation of New England, the club supports the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at the Tufts Medical Center in Boston, which treats children who are victims of serious accidents, which is one thing that speaks to Peterson, "I enjoy Kiwanis because we support charities primarily for children. In addition, I have met a lot of great men and women in this organizaton."

Tickets to the dinner and auction are $15. Food this year is being provided by Deno's, Leanworks, Spring Street Cafe/Just Baked Pastry Shop, and IScream Works. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:45 and the live auction commencing at 7:30 p.m. This all takes places at the Irish Social Club of Boston on Park Street in West Roxbury.

The Kiwanis Club is still accepting donations of gift certificates and "physical" auction items right up until the day of the auction. In addition, advertising opportunities are still available for the auction program. If you are interested in ticket information, an auction donation, or advertising opportunites, please contact Bob McNeil at 617-327-3100.

Added Peterson, "Lastly, it is a night that many people look forward to each year and it's great to catch-up with so many people who support us each year!"

The Roslindale-West Roxbury Kiwanis Club is in its 77th year of providing service to our community and this is our major fundraiser. The Club meets each Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at the West Roxbury YMCA.
