West Roxbury YMCA Welcomes New Board Members

Six new board members for the West Roxbury-Roslindale YMCA brings years of experience, and a love for the YMCA.


Six new board members have joined the board of directors at the West Roxbury-Roslindale YMCA. 

Each new board member brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Y, and will serve an integral role in the next few years.

“Each new board member brings something different to the table,” said Marion Kelly, executive director of the West Roxbury YMCA on Bellevue Street. “They are all ready to utilize their talents to help the Y deliver its mission.”

The following are thew new board members with a description of their life and work provided by the YMCA:

Rick Cencini – Rick is the Director of Rates and Regulatory Affairs Columbia Gas of Massachusetts. Rick is an active member of the YMCA along with his wife Pattie. Rick has golfed in our tournament for the last two years and is going to be a team captain for the 2013 tournament.

Janet McGrail - Spillane is a Vice President at the American Cancer Society, serves on several boards at the Brigham and Women's/Faulkner Hospital, previous  Director of Elder Health and Deputy Commissioner at the Elderly Commission for the City of Boston. Janet has extensive experience in community outreach, project management and fundraising. She has been a member of the Y for over 15 years and the mother of three grown boys. She and her husband Matthew reside in West Roxbury.

Wayne Murphy - Wayne lives in West Roxbury with his wife and five children, all of whom have been active members of the Y for years. Wayne owns a consulting business that specializes in the creation and implementation of compliance programs for sales practices and personnel management in various industries.  He is a former board member of the Pine Street Inn, is a lector at St. Anthony’s Shrine and has been a long-time volunteer with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.

Lovey Oliff – Lovey is an ESL teacher in the Weston Public Schools, has extensive fundraising experience. Lovey possesses a Masters Degree in education from Harvard, has two young children, and her husband is completing his last two years of residency in radiology at the Brigham. They live in Roslindale, and Lovey has been involved in Annual Fund for the past two years and an active member of the Y. 

Karen Payne - Karen received the the YMCA Black Achiever’s Award in 1991 and has continued her commitment to the YMCA ever since. She is an auditor for the Commonwealth of Mass, Special Administrator to Brockton NAACP, board member Mass NARAL, active in Ward 19 committee, former Roxbury Little League board member, former member of Healthy Roslindale and community activist.

Jim Sweeney – Jim is an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, President of the Parkway Running Club, a key leader in organizing the Walter’s Run road race that helps support the Annual Fund, a long-time member of the Y and a West Roxbury resident.
