City Councilor O'Malley to Explore Citywide Curbside Composting at Public Hearing on May 6

Boston City Councilor O’Malley is looking into the feasibility of implementing citywide curbside composting in Boston’s neighborhoods. Composting is an environmentally-friendly way of turning food scraps, yard waste, and other organic material into nutrient-rich soil.

O’Malley, who called for the public hearing in March, originally co-authored the legislation last year with former At-Large City Councilor Felix Arroyo.  At-Large City Councilor Ayanna Pressley co-sponsored the initiative this year.

O’Malley hopes to build on the city’s recycling efforts and community interest in expanding urban agriculture.  Today, more than 90 cities nationwide have city-run composting programs.  The hearing is open to the public.
