Benefit for Donna Melendez || Cure for Carcinoid Cancer

Donna Melendez, born and raised in West Roxbury, is a married mother of three who is battling Carcinoid Cancer. Donna was diagnosed in March 2009 and has undergone treatment in the United States since that time. Valuable time in her treatment has been lost due to the rarity of this type of cancer and consequently a misdiagnosis.

On the hopeful side, there is currently successful treatment in Europe where patients are responsible for the cost of the care, travel, and lodging. There is no FDA approved treatment in the U.S. currently for this type of cancer and therefore insurance coverage in unavailable. There is a screening process prior to being accepted into treatment abroad and Donna is currently deemed a candidate.

On Friday November 9, 2012 Donna's family and friends will be hosting a benefit on her behalf at the Boston Lodge of Elks, 1 Morrell St, West Roxbury from 6-10pm. Donations raised at this benefit will be for Donna's treatment in Switzerland.
