Collections in West Roxbury For Homeless Teens

Emmanuel Church and  Boomerangs in West Roxbury are collecting donations for teens in need this holiday season.

The West Roxbury church and store will support Youth on Fire, a program of AIDS Action, to collect items for homeless teens and people in their early 20s.

Youth on Fire is a drop-in center for homeless and street-involved teens and young adults offering basic necessities such as food, clothing, showers, and laundry.

Many of these young adults are homeless due to being aged out of the foster care system at age 18 with no place to go.

“Last year we created this mission to deliver 150 backpacks filled with basic essentials,” Jonathan Cleveland, an organizer said in an email to Patch.

Winter hats, gloves and warm socks for young adults (not children) are a few of our top priorities. It’s supposed to be a cold winter and we need to help keep these youth warm. Other items that you can donate are Lip Balm, Hand Warmers, AA Batteries, and small bottles of Hand Sanitizer. For homeless youth, a backpack filled with essentials can make a big difference this winter. Drop off any of the items (new please) shown above at Boomerangs in West Roxbury, or email info@emmanuelwr.org for pick up. Your help can mean their hope.

To lend a helping hand or make a financial gift to Youth on Fire, email info@emmanuelwr.org, call 617-990-2929. Checks can be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church/YOF and mailed to 21 Stratford St., West Roxbury, MA 02132. Donations are tax deductible.
