Songs, Dancing and Silliness Coming to West Roxbury Library

A children's performance will be held Saturday at the West Roxbury Library.

Popular children’s singer and songwriter Mike the Music Man will put on a fun family performance this Saturday at the West Roxbury Branch Library.

Mike Slattery’s performance is part of the Saturday Children’s Used Book Sale, which runs from 10 AM to 3 PM in the library lecture hall and is sponsored by the Friends of the West Roxbury Branch Library. The Friends’ book sales provide a large chunk of the funding which finances programming for the branch library. A larger book sale for all ages is held in June.

Slattery’s shows are filled with stories, singing, dancing and silliness, according to the Gwynne Morgan, Co-chair, Friends of the WR Branch Library .

The performance also features a short puppet show starring Snappy the Alligator and Smelly the Skunk, who engage with the children. Slattery travels with a box full of props including character hats (hippo, cheeseburger, elephant, pizza) and percussion instruments designed to encourage audience participation. He performs one magic trick with what he calls his “slightly magic” hat.

The performance begins at 11 a.m. on Nov. 16. Admission is free.
