West Roxbury Family Reunited With Missing Dog After 10 Days

Christmas came early for Stacy Coyle and her family.

The West Roxbury mother of three and her family were overcome with happiness earlier this week, when their adult Yellow Lab, Toby returned home, after he was missing for 10 days.

Toby went missing on Oct. 12 after wandering off from his backyard near Dowe Road.  This is something he had done so many times, but when he didn’t return, the family began to worry.

“It just got frustrating when he wasn’t showing up,” Coyle said.

With the help of business owners, neighbors and friends including  Maureen and Lei Lei from Rowe Road, the Coyle family made signs and posted them around town.  The family received news of sightings of labs in the area of Keith Street and LaGrange Street, but still the dog was not showing up.

Earlier this week, a Hyde Park man called and said he had the dog.  It had been staying with the man’s parents who had found it in West Roxbury.

When Toby finally returned home, the three Coyle kids were thrilled and jumped all over him, Stacy said.

“Toby makes the home happier,” Stacy said.  “So many people in the community made efforts to find him.  There’s a lot of nice people out there.”
