Three awarded the Cheverus Medal

Three from Roslindale and West Roxbury were awarded the Cheverus Medal from Cardinal O'Malley on Sunday, November 24 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.  The Cheverus Medal is named after Jean Cardinal Cheverus, first bishop of Boston from 1808-1824.  The medal is presented annually in November to laypersons, deacons and religious who serve the church quietly and without fanfare in a devoted way.  The three are Josephine Anastasia, a parishioner at St. John's; Susan Abbott, a parishioner at St. Theresa's; John Scanlon, a parishioner at Sacred Heart.  The Cardinal began the practice in 2008, the bicentennial year of the Archdiocese.
